Hopi Ear Candles FAQs

What are Hopi Ear Candles?

Also known Thermal Auricular Therapy, Hopi Ear Candles are a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears.  They are used to offer real and calming benefits for many problems and conditions associated with the ear, nose and throat areas. A natural alternative to conventional treatments such as antibiotics, ear syringing and grommets. A Hopi ear candle treatment is a relaxing, calming and soothing experience.

How do Hopi Ear Candles work?

Hopi candling involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal. The hopi candle is then lit and the suction that is formed draws secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Often referred to as the ‘chimney’ effect. The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure.

How far into my ear does the ear candle go?

The ear candle only goes into the ear about 1cm, no further that you could stick your finger in your ear.

Will it unblock my ears straight away?

Everyone’s reasons for having a HOPI treatment are different. In some cases one treatment can unblock the ears, such as after a cold. Some people who have very blocked ear canals may require as many as 4 treatments to begin to notice a difference.

I have hearing difficulties, can I have a HOPI treatment?

That would be dependent on what level of problems you have and whether it is recommended by a doctor. For severe deafness which requires a hearing aid, we would need a doctor’s letter first.

Other contra-indications which would affect a HOPI treatment are:

recent operations or surgery, swelling, headache/migraine, allergies to flax beeswax or honey, heart conditions, diabetes, grommets fitted, pacemaker, epilepsy, joint/neck problems, balance problems, recently perforated eardrum, scar tissue, ear diseases or disorders, cuts, bruises, respiratory problems, fever, raised body temperature, blood pressure, sinus issues, skin disorders, cancer.
